Back in 2013, my friend Rachel and I started a small stationery company called Dear Adelaide Design. We had grand expectations of where Adelaide would take us, and though our destination was perhaps not as big as we'd hoped for, the journey was a valuable adventure. From figuring out our brand to filing taxes (which caused one of us to cower under a kitchen table once), we learned some things about business ownership...
like how to woo customers at craft fairs around Philly...

Our set up at Go West Craft Fest in 2014
how to celebrate when people bought our stuff or how to encourage each other when they didn't...

we came up with fun ideas (mostly Rachel), like collaborating with ELIXR coffee shop, giving out our postcards for free to encourage people to sit down, sip their coffee, and send love to friends and family with a handwritten note (sit, sip, and send)
we pushed ourselves to think creatively and to make things of quality that we were proud of

and we did it without going bankrupt woot woot!
Then after all that learning about business ownership, Adelaide started taking naps that turned into long slumbers, meaning, we came to a place where were hardly making or selling any new products, I went to China for 6 months, life was taking precedent. I realized much of my energy was going into a solo illustration career, and Rachel was at a place of re-evaluating her creative goals and perhaps getting back to handmade products and invitations. We decided it would be best if Rachel turn the business into her own solo adventure, while I pursue children's illustration. It was sad to say adieu to Adelaide, but it seemed less of an end and more of a natural progression of things. It's really a beginning:)

I am so very thankful for Rachel and happy to hand the business over to such a bright, talented and wonderful person, and I look forward to seeing her new Adelaide creations!
Adeiu Adelaide, it has been fun!
